Step inside “Hotel Normandie”, Manhattan, 1933, and enter the world of Missus Nora Charles. These opulent rooms are furnished in the height of fashion – modern art hangs on the walls. Floor to ceiling windows are curtained with Art Deco floral prints; a baby grand piano rests in the corner. Irises, jasmine and lilac sprigs in tall vases sit on side tables throughout the room. Modern couches covered in thick, plush fabrics beckon beneath sparkling, crystal chandeliers. Asta the dog looks up from her nap on an overstuffed easy chair as Nora Charles calls to her husband. “Nicky, it’s 2:00pm. Let’s have a martini!”
Exotic Jasmine, fresh cut lilac, creamy vanilla bean, citrusy sweet bergamot.
Strong / Medium
Aromatic top notes of exotic jasmine and lilac spring to life against luxurious bergamot middle notes and finish with warm, creamy vanilla.
Missus Nora Charles. Created by author Dashiell Hammett for his detective novel, “The Thin Man”, (1934), Nora Charles, along with her retired detective husband, Nick, starred in 6 hit films (1934-1947), were featured on their own radio program, (1941-1950), and eventually ended up on television in the mid-late 1950s for a total run of 72 episodes.
Screwball, sarcastic, thrill-seeking San Francisco mining heiress, Nora Charles, is hard-drinking, flirty, sharp-tongued, and as unconventional as she is beautiful. In the 1930s, housewives were expected to be predictable and complacent. Nora Charles, however, lives for excitement and encourages her husband to continue his sleuthing work while she happily eggs him on, whether he likes it or not!
